Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a system of custom-made clear aligners that straighten crooked teeth and correct malocclusion (bad bite) issues, much like conventional braces. Made of BPA-free plastic, these clear aligners mold to the shape of your teeth. Nobody will even know you’re wearing them. Not only are Invisalign aligners clear and discreet, they’re also removable.

Clear aligners are the ideal orthodontic treatment for adults and teens who want to straighten their teeth without the metal brackets and wires that come with conventional braces.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign can address many of the same orthodontic issues as conventional braces, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Gapped teeth
  • Overcrowding

When considering your orthodontic treatment options, consider that Invisalign offers many advantages over conventional braces, such as:

Improved appearance

Clear aligners are translucent and custom-made, so they look nearly identical to your own teeth. Most people can’t tell when you’re wearing them because they look natural.

Enhanced comfort

One of the most common complaints of metal braces is that the brackets irritate the inside of your cheeks. Invisalign aligners are smooth, so they can’t rub or irritate the soft tissues in your mouth.

Better oral hygiene

Unlike braces, which are fixed to your teeth, clear aligners are removable. You should take them out to eat and drink anything but water. After every meal, brush and floss your teeth as you normally would.

Shorter treatment time

Braces take about 18 months to three years to correct most orthodontic issues. Meanwhile, Invisalign can produce similar results in as little as 6-18 months.

What is the Invisalign process like?

Invisalign uses modern dental technology to ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible. To start, Dr. Lee and the team perform a dental exam, complete with digital X-rays, to make sure Invisalign is right for you.

Creating your custom-made clear aligners requires highly accurate impressions of your teeth. To create your personalized treatment, the team takes digital impressions of your teeth for enhanced accuracy and comfort. After uploading these impressions into Invisalign’s proprietary software, the team designs your custom treatment.

Finally, the team sends your treatment plan to Invisalign, which fabricates your clear aligners. Once they arrive, you wear a different set every two weeks. It’s important to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

If your plan needs any adjustments, Dr. Lee can make these changes in the Invisalign software, minimizing your time in the office for check-in visits.
